Funding Support

NZSG manages travel funds from the Australian Synchrotron for researchers to travel to Melbourne for beamtime. This covers airfares (up to a maximum amount depending on the departure city), accommodation, and ground transportation in Melbourne (taxi fare) for three people per experiment. Please see below to download an application form.

From July 2007 to June 2009 funds were available for travel to other synchrotron facilities and for science project expenses. This funding has now ceased and no further applications can be accepted.

For requests for travel expenses to the Australian Synchrotron

Any New Zealand research group that obtains beamtime can apply for this funding regardless of whether they are a member of NZSG.

Payment will be made by way of a grant on receipt of the claim and a brief report on the experiment.

Applications can be lodged with NZSG once a beamtime proposal has been submitted.

Applicants will be asked to list their collaborators who will be involved in the project (both travelling and non-travelling). Funding requests will be granted on a per group, per visit basis – up to a maximum of three researchers travelling.

The maximum amounts that can be requested for airfares are:

  • Departing from Auckland: NZD 933 (AUD 700)
  • Departing from Wellington or Christchurch: NZD 1000 (AUD 750)

(currency exchange rates as at May 2011; please check current rates when applying as the AUD amount is the maximum that can be awarded)

Ground transportation in Melbourne: up to NZD 285 (AUD 215) per group.

Accommodation at Rusden House is to be arranged directly with the Australian Synchrotron user office.
