As well as supporting access to the Australian Synchrotron, the NZSG facilitates opportunities for Aotearoa New Zealand’s researchers to meet and exchange knowledge with international colleagues.
The AOFSRR is a framework to further develop synchrotron science and technology. The AOFSRR advances the research goals of the forum parties and promotes collaboration in the region.
Other member countries include Australia, China, India, Japan, Malaysia, Singapore, South Korea, Taiwan, Thailand, and Vietnam.
The AOFSRR regularly holds conferences as well as an annual school for young and emerging researchers who intend developing a career in synchrotron science.
The school offers a programme of seminars on the application of synchrotron science, together with practical sessions on how specific beamlines can be applied to a wide range of research.
Science and engineering graduate students and early career researchers from the entire Asia-Oceania region attend the school. The NZSG has sent students since 2014.
For more information on the next school, contact NZSG’s Executive Officer, Dr Don Smith.
The next school is planned for 19-25 October 2025 in Japan.
Users of the Australian Synchrotron meet annually, and the NZSG provides support for students to attend the meeting, held at the Australian Synchrotron.
These events give the students opportunities to further enhance their knowledge of synchrotron science and meet a wide range of researchers from throughout the region.
For more information on the next User Meeting, contact NZSG’s Executive Officer, Dr Don Smith.
