New Zealand access to the Australian Synchrotron until 2031 confirmed NZSG has renewed the agreement with ANSTO that enables New Zealand researchers to use the Australian Synchrotron. The renewal covers the period from July 2026 until June 2031 and involves NZSG making an annual payment to ANSTO in return for guaranteed access to merit time on the facility. The cost of access is shared between the government (through a Strategic Science Investment Fund contract) and the research sector.
Researchers from the 7 institutions that are contributing funds can apply freely, but researchers from other institutions can also apply for a small part of the pool of shifts if certain conditions are met.
The renewed arrangement of the partnership with the Australian Synchrotron was celebrated with a signing ceremony in front of the Prime Ministers of Australia and New Zealand in Queensland on 6 June 2026 (Read the full story)
